Week 5
June 29-July 3, 2015
Happy post-Independence Day from your favorite Independence Gay! Wow, so what a crazy packed weekend it was for me and my friends. How many times can you say you celebrated the Fourth of July in the city that’s dripping in red, white and blue?
Here at BRAVO, we kicked off our holiday weekend with a team outing to Top Golf in Alexandria, Va. Let me just say that the last time I golfed, I was hitting a ball into a windmill of doom. Needless to say, I’m no Tiger Woods and was a little hesitant about a golf trip. But Top Golf is so much fun! We weren’t competitive at all, but I was totally getting some distance out of my shots that I had no idea I was capable of. Question for my reader though: how many gay guys golf? Just asking because the scene at Top Golf was more sports bar party than on-the-green glamour. Anyway, the entire evening was filled with laughs and amazing appetizers. We all made it back safe and sound to wave our American flags loud and proud over the weekend.
There was so much to see and do in the city over the long weekend. From brunches with fabulous friends to fireworks on the Mall, I couldn’t have asked for a better break. We started our adventures early on Saturday morning with a trip to Georgetown to join a brunch party. If you haven’t figured it out yet, the gays love brunch. It’s an essential meal, and who could say no to bottomless mimosas? I’d have to say my only regret is not having a hotdog for lunch, like how un-American of me. The city streets were a sea of people decked out in their cutest Americana, talk about fifty shades of red, white and blue.
I can’t believe I only have roughly five weeks left in D.C. This experience has taught me so much about who I am and what my next steps in life could be, and I’m still learning something new every day. I feel like these next couple weeks are going to go by so fast, but thanks for sticking around and letting me blab about it all to you. I think I might wrap this up, it’s about time for a coffee run anyway! So until next time, stay fab!
