Welcome to According to Plan, Madison Oberg's weekly blog about her experience being a fall intern for BRAVO!. We love our intern blogs and hope you enjoy following Madison!
Week 5
September 28 - October 2, 2015
This last week was full of great food (which seems to be a common theme in my blog), old friends and a quick visit to The Fort. Every day is a new adventure, and every day I feel like I’m getting closer to figuring out what I want to do post-graduation!
Last Wednesday, I got to attend a tasting for our Whitman-Walker Health Gala event. Nancy and Lacey warned me I wouldn’t be hungry for dinner that night, but I had no idea how true this would prove to be. From the moment we were greeted at Windows Catering with a glass of Prosecco, I knew it was going to be a great afternoon. We spent several hours contemplating table linens and place settings, testing different chairs for comfort and style, and tasting course after course of incredible food options. Although I never took more than three bites of any dish, I don’t think I’ve ever been so full in my life. This was one of my favorite BRAVO! experiences thus far, as we shaped the Gala event for our guests. Food has the power to bring people together to share and celebrate, and I loved helping to design this! Each new coordinating experience is something I enjoy, and I truly feel like this internship is significantly impacting my career plans.
After my workweek, I took off to Fort Worth for homecoming weekend. I was greeted by some of my best friends who caught me up on all that I’d missed at TCU. The biggest piece of news is that my roommate of two years is engaged! This will be the first wedding in my core group, and I couldn’t be more excited for the future Mr. and Mrs. Towe!
I spent Friday bopping around campus and exploring our newly renovated library (we call TCU “Texas Construction University” for a reason). It was incredible to see all of the changes and run into some of my favorite familiar faces, but I was surprised at how nostalgic I felt. I still have one semester left before I graduate, but coming back to visit made me feel like an alumni. I am going to make the most of my semester when I return in the spring (I actually love going to class), but I am very much ready for life after graduation.
Although my BRAVO! experience is shaping what I want to do, I am still incredibly unsure about where I want to do it. It feels like everyone is asking where I want to live after graduation, and I am very thankful that I still have some time to figure that out! I’m trying to take life one day at a time, focusing on enjoying what’s going on right now rather than stressing about what lies ahead. I know from experience that life will unfold how it’s supposed to, and I’m taking a lot of comfort in that!
I spent the remainder of my weekend reconnecting with more friends over Tex Mex, drinking several pumpkin spice lattes, “brunchgating” with my boyfriend’s family, celebrating TCU’s 50-7 win over UT (go Frogs!), and watching at least five or six episodes of House Hunters whenever we had a spare moment. I could have used a few more days and it was hard to say goodbyes, but it’s great to know that I’ll still feel at home when I return in the spring. I am so thankful for my current adventure, and I can’t wait to see how the rest of this year unfolds!
