Week 9

October 26 - October 30, 2015

When Nancy and the BRAVO! team warned us those first couple weeks about how hectic it was going to be come events-season, I had no idea what that would entail. The “events-life” may keep you exhausted and constantly on your toes, but it is definitely rewarding in the end.

This past week, we had the opportunity to partner with the Washington D.C. Economic Partnership (WDCEP) to help coordinate and put on the 2015 Annual Meeting and ECON Showcase held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. This event was very different than the others that we have worked on this semester and I found it be a refreshing change of pace. While it may not have been a gala or a 5k walk, it was nice to see another side of the events-world that may not have the glitz, but is still just as important as any other event that we work on.

As Nancy has often mentioned to us, there are plenty of people under the impression that the “events-life” is simply putting on parties; however, as I have come to realize, there is so much more under the surface that goes into putting on these “parties.” For Blair and I this week, that meant helping stuff and alphabetize several hundred name badges for the guests and staff of Friday’s WDCEP luncheon (shout out to Blair who I felt did an incredible job stepping up to help Bryan and the rest of the BRAVO! team with this week’s event). The luncheon ended up being an amazing success, with guests not only filling up all of the pre-arranged tables in the ballroom but also an entire additional table that we added to accommodate everyone.

Stepping out of the office, I spent this weekend with friends celebrating Halloween, enjoying our one extra hour provided by daylight savings, and brunching at a new find in DuPont Circle. As November begins, I’m hurriedly trying to work through my Washington D.C. bucket list and am anxious to see what else is to come!
