Weeks 12 & 13
November 16 - October 27, 2015
Today is the first day of December, meaning 11 days until I head back to Portland, 16 days until I turn 22, 24 days until Christmas, and only 30 days until the start of 2016! I’m not a math person and generally try to avoid numbers, but I’m excited about these countdowns to some really great milestones and celebrations. With all of these new beginnings come the end of what has been the best semester of my college experience, and I fully intend to enjoy my last (less than) two weeks in D.C.!
This year, I spent my Thanksgiving with Chelsea (another intern from TCU) and one of her longtime family friends in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was gracious enough to welcome more than 20 of us into her home for a wonderful Friendsgiving, which was truly one of the best celebrations I’ve ever had. From the spirited conversations to the great home cooked food to the post-dinner dance party, there was never a dull moment. The highlight of the evening was watching the host and hostess get engaged, as they let us all share in this memory and their love. This day of joy and laughter was much needed, as we set aside all of life’s craziness to focus on just how blessed we are.
The next two weeks at BRAVO! will be spent finishing up our holiday toy drive benefitting D.C. foster children and victims of abuse. Giving gifts to kids who may not have received them otherwise was yet another poignant reminder of the importance of service and just how fortunate I am. This year, I’m going to focus on truly enjoying my time in Portland with the people I love. I’ll spend some extra time counting my blessings, as I have more than enough and plenty to celebrate.
Twelve more days in the Capital. Twelve more days to pack, to explore, to study for finals, to dance, and to squeeze in one last brunch. Twelve days to spend with the new friends I’ve made and to say goodbye to those I may not see again. I’m so ready for the next step but not quite yet ready to leave!
